The Oakland Athletics beat the Texas Rangers, 4-3, in 10 innings. Oakland second baseman Nap Lajoie, in particular, had a fine performance. He was 4 for 5 with a triple, a double, and 2 singles. He scored 2 times and drove in 2. Oakland reliever Dennis Eckersley picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Jeff Russell absorbed the loss. The win moves Oakland to a record of 17-11.
The defining moment came in the bottom of the tenth for Oakland. That's when Mule Suttles hit a run-scoring double off 27-year old right-handed pitcher Jeff Russell to win the game. The home crowd went wild.
