The New York Yankees withstood an impressive performance by Minnesota center fielder Oscar Charleston to defeat the Twins, 11-7, at Yankee Stadium. Charleston went 3 for 4 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 3. New York reliever Rich Gossage picked up the win, upping his record to 2-0. Eddie Guardado absorbed the loss. Minnesota, with the loss, is 14-20.

The game was at a stalemate until left fielder Babe Ruth came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Minnesota pitcher Eddie Guardado, he hit a full count changeup for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting New York on top, 8-7.
