Astros Clip Tigers, 3-2
|
Houston turned a fine outing from starter Joe Niekro into a victory over the Detroit Tigers at Minute Maid Park. The final score was 3-2. Larry Andersen recorded the save, his 8th. The defeat makes Detroit 11-14.
Houston left fielder Carlos Lee helped the Astros go up, 3-2, in the bottom of the sixth inning. With the game tied, Lee hit a run-scoring single off Detroit pitcher Jim Bunning.
After the game, Lee told the Houston Chronicle, "Like I've always said, the challenge is what makes this game worth playing."
