Seattle starter Hisashi Iwakuma put the Houston offense in a vise grip. The right-hander relied heavily on his curveball in leading the Mariners to a 3-1 win. Kazuhiro Sasaki recorded the save, his 9th. The loss puts Houston at 16-12.
The Mariners got a big at-bat from shortstop Omar Vizquel. For the game, Vizquel was 1-2 with a double and a walk. In the bottom of the fourth, with a runner on 2nd, he stroked a run-scoring double. His 1st double of the season gave Seattle a 2-1 lead.
Seattle manager commended his team for exhibiting "no shortage of effort."
