Chicago Wins at Home to Take 2-1 Lead in R1
|
The Chicago White Sox got a strong performance from pitcher Ed Walsh, who stymied the visiting New York Yankees en route to a win, 5-1, in Game 3 of the Round 1. The Yankees could never get a bead on the right-handed Walsh, who threw 6.1 innings of 5-hit ball. The White Sox now hold a 2-1 in the best-of-7 series.
Shoeless Joe Jackson dealt the Yankees a blow in the bottom of the second. Batting with runners on 1st and 3rd and Chicago leading 1-0, Jackson, who led the AL in hits with 171 in 2014, hit a 0-1 fastball for a 2-run triple.
"It's true for every sport, I think, but the playoffs are so short that you've just got to get in and get hot," Chicago manager told BNN after the win. "We took care of the first part and now we're just working on the second."
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at U.S. Cellular Field in Chicago.
