Cardinals Post 4-1 Win
|
St. Louis beat Washington on the strength of starting pitcher Bob Gibson's fine effort. The right-hander led his team to a win, 4-1. At 64-70, the Cardinals claim second place in the National League Central Division.
In the bottom of the first inning, second baseman Rogers Hornsby had a 2-run home run for St. Louis. It was his 9th home run of the season and put the Cardinals on top, 2-0.
"Banging out wins is what it's all about," said Hornsby.
