Cubs Pull Out Late-Game Win, 5-4
|
Chicago Cubs right-hander Rick Sutcliffe pitched a good game against the Washington Nationals at Wrigley Field, leading his team to victory, 5-4. Chicago, now 57-71, holds down 4th place in the National League Central Division.
The Cubs were down to their last out in the bottom of the ninth inning, when 29-year old right fielder Bill Nicholson landed a big blow. He turned a 2-1 sinker from Tim Burke into a 2-run single. The walk-off single sent the Wrigley Field denizens into a frenzy and sent the Cubs home with a thrilling 5-4 win.
"I like the vibe in the clubhouse after a win," said Nicholson. "It sure beats the alternative."
