The St. Louis Cardinals picked up a win at Busch Stadium, taking down the Pittsburgh Pirates, 7-1. Starting pitcher Max Lanier was a big reason why. The Cardinals raised their record to 62-65.
Ken Boyer had a big 2-run home run for the Cardinals in the bottom of the second inning. With St. Louis leading 1-0 and a runner on 2nd, he got a fastball from Jesse Tannehill, who is tied for 10th in the NL in quality starts with 19, and swatted a home run to left. It was his 5th home run of the season, and more importantly, it put the Cardinals ahead, 3-0.
"We'll hit the hot tub in good spirits tonight," said Lanier.
