San Diego turned a fine outing from starter Bruce Hurst into a victory over the New York Mets at Citi Field. The final score was 2-0. Trevor Hoffman was credited with the save, his 32nd in 35 tries. With the win over New York, the Padres improved to 55-74.

Fernando Tatis Jr., who is tied for 9th in the NL in RBI with 74, had a direct impact on the outcome. Tatis Jr. contributed a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the fifth inning to put San Diego up, 2-0.
