San Diego Drops Another One, 3-0
|
New York pitcher Terris McDuffie did his part in helping his team defeat the San Diego Padres, 3-0. The opposition could never get too much going against the right-hander. Tom Seaver, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 31st save. The win gives New York a season record of 70-58.
The Padres had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Mets going into the bottom of the fourth inning. That changed quickly when the 25-year old right fielder Darryl Strawberry came to the plate. Strawberry hit a 3-run home run on a 2-0 sinker from San Diego hurler Andy Benes. It was Strawberry's 6th home run of the year.
"We'll put this win in our pocket and go after the next one," said Strawberry.
