The Cincinnati Reds scooted past the St. Louis Cardinals, 4-3, at Great American Ball Park. Cincinnati pitcher Satchel Paige, in particular, performed like a star. Noodles Hahn came out of the bullpen to earn the win. The left-hander allowed 1 run on 2 hits in 2.1 innings. His record now stands at 5-2. With the win, the Reds sit at 66-60.
Eric Davis dealt the Cardinals a blow in the bottom of the fourth. Batting with runners on 2nd and 3rd and Cincinnati leading 1-0, Davis hit a 2-1 fastball for a 2-run single.
"We're playing hard," said Paige, "and we're playing to win."
