Win Makes Atlanta 63-60
|
Washington got a terrific game from first baseman Nick Johnson. It wasn't enough, though, to prevent the team from falling to Atlanta, 6-4. Johnson was 2-2 with a home run, a double, and 2 walks. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Johnny Sain picked up the win with 5.1 innings of work. He allowed 4 runs on 6 hits, while walking 2 and striking out 4. On the season, he is now 10-9. Craig Kimbrel earned the save for Atlanta, his 26th of the year.
The Braves took the lead, 5-4, in the bottom of the fourth inning. Facing Washington hurler Phil Cockrell with one out, Freddie Freeman hit a 2-run single.
Freeman said afterward that "winning is the goal."
With the win, the Braves have a record of 63-60.
