In a low-scoring contest between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the New York Mets, Sandy Koufax, who is tied for 4th in the NL in innings pitched with 188.0, proved to be the difference. The Los Angeles left-hander earned props for his performance in the 3-1 Dodgers win. Eric Gagne earned the save for Los Angeles. Los Angeles, now 68-50, holds down second place in the National League Western Division.

Bill Russell, who is the 3rd-best prospect in the Dodgers organization, helped out the Los Angeles cause in the top of the fifth inning with a run-scoring sacrifice fly. For the game, the shortstop drove in one run.

In postgame remarks, Dodgers manager lauded Koufax. "He's a good, young player. The future's bright for Sandy."
