The Washington Nationals had to overcome a big game from Philadelphia third baseman Scott Rolen to leave Nationals Park with a victory. And they did, winning, 6-3. Rolen was 2-4 with a home run. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. Dennis Martinez was the winner. He's now 6-5. The loser was 34-year old right-handed pitcher Zack Wheeler. The Nationals saw their win-loss record go to 64-53. At the same time, the Phillies fell to 67-50.

The Nationals got a big at-bat from first baseman Nick Johnson. For the game, Johnson was 1 for 3 with a double and a walk, while adding 2 RBI. In the bottom of the third, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a 2-run double. His 8th double of the season gave Washington a 3-1 lead.

"We had situations where we should have got some runs in, but we didn't get the runs in," said losing manager .
