Starting pitcher Chris Short fulfilled his part of the bargain, helping the Philadelphia Phillies stymie the Washington Nationals, 6-2. With the win, the Phillies improved to 67-49.

Philadelphia won the game in part because of Scott Rolen. The third baseman ripped a 2-run home run in the top of the fourth inning to put the Phillies ahead, 3-2. For the game, Rolen had 1 double and 1 home run in 4 at-bats.
