Nationals Clip Phillies, 7-6
People outside the ballpark no doubt heard the roar of the crowd as the winning run crossed the plate.

The Washington Nationals beat the Philadelphia Phillies, 7-6, in 12 innings. Washington center fielder and Matanzas, Cuba, native Martin Dihigo led the way. Washington reliever Jeff Fassero got the win, raising his record to 3-1. Erskine Mayer was tagged with the loss.

The game was still up for grabs in the bottom of the 12th. With two out, Dihigo hit a fastball from Erskine Mayer for a run-scoring single. The Nationals, in dramatic fashion, had a walk-off win.

In postgame comments, Dihigo said, "I think we gave the fans their money's worth."

The win gives Washington a season record of 63-52.
