Braves Get Clutch Win, 5-4
|
The Atlanta Braves had to overcome a fine effort from Pittsburgh pitcher Babe Adams to win, 5-4, at Turner Field. Adams went 7.1 innings and allowed 4 runs. Atlanta reliever Craig Kimbrel picked up the win, upping his record to 4-5. Kent Tekulve was saddled with the loss. Atlanta, now 58-57, holds down 4th place in the National League Eastern Division.
Atlanta got a jolt from Wally Berger. The left fielder ripped a solo home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to win the game. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it brought the house down.
Berger attributed the win to "an all-around good team performance."
