Randy Jones, who is tied for 10th in the NL in quality starts with 18, never let the Giants get in a groove. The left-hander used his bread and butter, his fastball, to pitch the Padres to a win, 2-1. The Padres, at 53-65, sit in 4th place in the National League Western Division.

San Diego used the timely hitting of Rap Dixon to seize the win. The right fielder stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Padres on top, 2-1. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.

"Enjoyed this one," Jones told the San Diego Daily News. "But it's back to work tomorrow."
