The Cincinnati Reds, behind a great outing from Jose Rijo, who is tied for 8th in the NL in complete games with 1, defeated the Miami Marlins, 3-1, at Marlins Ballpark. Rijo, the winner, moves to 8-10. He threw 5.2 innings of 4-hit ball, while fanning 7 and giving up 3 walks. The save was credited to Rob Dibble, his 28th.

Joey Votto had a critical at-bat with two out in the top of the eighth for Cincinnati. He came through with a run-scoring single to put Cincinnati in front, 3-1.

"Anytime we get it going, it puts a smile on my face," said Rijo.

The first-place Reds go to 59-60.
