Cardinals Get Defeated by Cubs, 5-2
|
The Chicago Cubs earned a win at Wrigley Field, knocking off the St. Louis Cardinals, 5-2. On the bump for Chicago was right-hander Clark Griffith. He had a starring role in the triumph. Griffith, now 8-10, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 3, walking 1, and allowing 2 runs. At 49-66, the Cubs are currently last in the National League Central Division.
In the bottom of the sixth, Chicago right fielder Sammy Sosa put his team on top. With one out and a runner on 2nd, he hit his 16th home run of the year. St. Louis pitcher Adam Wainwright served it up. Just like that, the Cubs were ahead, 3-2.
"I thought we played a nice game," Sosa told the Chicago Bulletin. "Good pitching, timely hitting, it was all there."
