Nationals Bump Off Mets, 6-5
|
The Washington Nationals topped the New York Mets, 6-5, in National League action at Nationals Park. The game was highlighted by the performance of Washington left fielder Wilson Redus. Getting the save was John Wetteland, his 6th. Washington is now 61-49.
Redus contributed a big hit, a 2-run home run, for Washington in the bottom of the fifth. With his team trailing 3-2, Redus took a curveball from Dwight Gooden and stroked the home run to left-center. His 25th home run of the season allowed the Nationals to leap in front, 4-3.
"There's a lot in this game you can't control. Just take what the game gives you. I was just doing my best to help the team win," Redus told the Washington Observer.
