With Late Score, Red Sox Beat Indians
|
Boston ruined an otherwise fine effort from Bob Feller by toppling Cleveland, 3-2. The Cleveland pitcher threw 6.2 innings of 4-hit ball. Boston reliever Daniel Bard was the winner. His record is now 3-0. Dave LaRoche took the loss. Cleveland falls to 9-15.
Boston used the timely hitting of Wade Boggs to seize the win. The third baseman stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Red Sox on top, 3-2. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.
"The fact of the matter is that we had a shot to win," said losing manager .
