Red Sox Prevail, 6-3, in 12 Innings
|
No one was more impactful than Ted Williams in an extra-inning, 6-3 Boston win over Cleveland. Williams, who is tied for 9th in the AL in runs scored with 14, went 3 for 5 with 3 singles and a walk. He scored 2 runs. Boston reliever Daniel Bard was the winner. His record is now 2-0. Doug Jones took the loss. The Indians, now 8-14, continue their inauspicious start.
Boston used a timely hit from Bill R Mueller to get the win. The second baseman stroked a bases-clearing double in the top of the 12th inning to put the Red Sox ahead, 6-3. It was his only hit in 2 at-bats, but it made an impact.
"Just trying to keep things simple and helping the team win any way I can," Williams told a local reporter after the game.
