St. Louis Dispatched, 2-1, by Philadelphia
|
Philadelphia Phillies starter Aaron Nola pitched a good game to help his team take down the St. Louis Cardinals, 2-1. The save went to Erskine Mayer, his 7th this season. With the win, the Phillies have a record of 61-44.
The Cardinals had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Phillies going into the bottom of the sixth inning. That changed quickly when the 31-year old first baseman Mike Schmidt came to the plate. Schmidt hit a solo home run on a 1-2 changeup from St. Louis hurler Max Lanier. It was Schmidt's 17th home run of the year.
Schmidt attributed the win to his team's "tenacity."
