Nosediving Cubs Drop 8th Straight
|
Turner Field was the site of some high drama.
The Atlanta Braves managed to get by the Chicago Cubs, 3-2, at Turner Field. Atlanta pitcher Tom Glavine set himself apart with his performance. Atlanta reliever John Smoltz picked up the win, upping his record to 7-4. Les Lancaster absorbed the loss.
Up to bat in the bottom of the ninth, 25-year old right fielder Ronald Acuna Jr. had a chance to be the hero. Chicago pitcher Les Lancaster had other ideas. But with one out, Acuna Jr. grounded out, driving in 1 run. The Braves had themselves a dramatic win.
"We're learning some lessons in the school of hard knocks," philosophized losing manager .
Atlanta, at 53-55, occupies 4th place in the National League Eastern Division.
