Brewers Get Clutch Win, 2-1
|
The Milwaukee Brewers converted a terrific effort from starter Teddy Higuera into a win over the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field. The Brewers won the game by a final score of 2-1. Rollie Fingers picked up the save for Milwaukee, his 27th of the year. Milwaukee, now 47-57, holds down third place in the National League Central Division.
The game was at a stalemate until left fielder Christian Yelich came to bat in the top of the eighth. Facing Chicago pitcher Randy Myers, he hit a full count fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Milwaukee on top, 2-1.
"I felt great. Had good rhythm with my mechanics," said Higuera.
