Padres Handed 4-3 Loss by St. Louis
|
St. Louis picked up a win at Busch Stadium, bumping off the San Diego Padres, 4-3. Pitcher Ray Brown was a major reason the Cardinals emerged victorious. The winner was Brown. He threw 7.2 innings allowing 3 runs. The loser was Bruce Hurst. St. Louis is 55-52 and San Diego, with the loss, 45-60.
The Cardinals got a big hit from second baseman Rogers Hornsby. Facing San Diego pitcher Bruce Hurst in the bottom of the fifth, Hornsby pounded a 2-run double to center. His 32nd double of the season put the Cardinals ahead, 4-1.
"We came out on the wrong end of this one," said San Diego skipper .
