The New York Mets eked out a 1-0 win versus the Cincinnati Reds at Citi Field. Nobody did more than pitcher Hilton Smith. He was terrific. Tom Seaver collected save number 24.

Smith delivered a quality start for New York. The 6-foot-2 right-hander allowed no earned runs on 2 hits over 8 innings of work.

"Hilton gave us a heck of an effort," said New York manager .

New York, now 59-49, holds down third place in the National League Eastern Division.
