Pirates Handed 3-0 Loss by Arizona
|
The Arizona Diamondbacks knocked off the Pittsburgh Pirates, 3-0, in National League action at Chase Field. Arizona pitcher and Ashland, California, native Brandon Webb had an outstanding performance. Webb yielded no runs over 7.1 innings to notch the win. He scattered 4 hits, walked 1, and struck out 5. His record improves to 3-11. Curt Schilling was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 22 of 28 save opportunities.
Ketel Marte drew 1 walk in 4 trips to the plate for Arizona. With one out and the game tied in the bottom of the sixth inning, Marte, who is tied for 9th in the NL in triples with 5, had a clutch at-bat. Facing Pittsburgh hurler Jesse Tannehill, he hit a sacrifice fly to give the Diamondbacks a 1-0 lead.
Marte told a Arizona Observer reporter that he was "gratified" with the win.
With the win, Arizona goes to 46-55, while the Pirates fall to 45-56.
