Pitcher Andy Benes was rock solid in helping the San Diego Padres beat the Miami Marlins, 3-1. Benes yielded no runs over 7 innings to notch the win. He scattered 6 hits, walked 0, and struck out 8. His record improves to 5-14. Trevor Hoffman collected his 25th save.

San Diego took the lead, 1-0, on Adrian Gonzalez's 3rd home run of the season. The solo home run came off Miami pitcher Jose Fernandez in the bottom of the seventh.
