The Washington Nationals picked up a win at Nationals Park, knocking off the Pittsburgh Pirates, 5-4. Starting pitcher Dennis Martinez played a key role in the triumph. Washington, at 54-42, sits in second place in the National League Eastern Division.

Washington took control in the bottom of the sixth. With one out and runners on 1st and 2nd, Tim Wallach hit a run-scoring single to make it 4-3, Nationals.

"It was a solid team effort," said Martinez after the game.
