Down to Defeat Go Mets, 5-3
|
The Miami Marlins knocked off the New York Mets, 5-3, in National League action at Marlins Ballpark. Miami pitcher and Santa Clara, Cuba, native Jose Fernandez had an outstanding performance. Fernandez, the winner, moves to 7-8. He threw 7.1 innings of 4-hit ball, while fanning 8 and giving up 2 walks. The Marlins improved to 46-48.
Charles Johnson had a big 3-run home run for the Marlins in the bottom of the second inning. With Miami leading 2-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a fastball from Dwight Gooden and swatted a home run to left-center. It was his 6th home run of the season, and more importantly, it put the Marlins ahead, 5-0.
"Jose did a good job of managing their lineup," said Miami manager .
