The Miami Marlins topped the New York Mets, 10-2, in National League action at Marlins Ballpark. The game was highlighted by the performance of Miami third baseman Miguel Cabrera. Kevin Brown, who went 7 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with 2 runs on 5 hits, while walking 2 and striking out 8. His record now stands at 9-9. Miami, now 45-48, holds down 4th place in the National League Eastern Division.
With Miami leading 4-1 in the bottom of the fifth, Cabrera batted against New York pitcher Jacob deGrom. Cabrera hit a fastball to left for a grand slam home run. His 4th home run of the season put the Marlins on top, 8-1.
"Nothing to write home about," New York manager said, when asked afterward about the game.
