Late Offense Lifts St. Louis to 3-2 Victory
|
The St. Louis Cardinals faced a tough opponent in Arizona pitcher Bill Foster, but did just enough to pull out the victory at Chase Field by a final score of 3-2 in 10 innings. Foster went 7.1 innings and allowed 2 runs. Bruce Sutter closed the door for St. Louis, picking up his 28th save of the year. The second-place Cardinals improved to 49-48.
St. Louis took a 3-2 lead on Albert Pujols's 6th home run of the season. The solo home run, which Pujols hit in the top of the tenth, left Arizona pitcher Curt Schilling visibly frustrated.
"That was a good baseball game," said Pujols.
