A nice crowd turned out for a clash between the Philadelphia Phillies and San Diego Padres.

Starting pitcher Chris Short took care of business, helping the Philadelphia Phillies stifle the San Diego Padres, 4-1. Mitch Williams nailed down his 19th save.

Lefty O'Doul drove in one run for Philadelphia. The 32-year old left fielder had a key at-bat in the bottom of the fourth. With one out and runners on 1st and 3rd, he broke a 0-0 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Randy Jones. It was his 48th RBI of the season.

"Chris pitched like a champ," said Philadelphia manager .

Philadelphia is now 51-37, while San Diego is 38-50.
