Chicago parlayed a decent outing from starter Mordecai Brown into a solid win over the Arizona Diamondbacks. The final score was 3-2. Sean Marshall sewed up the save, his 22nd. The Cubs raised their record to 41-52.

Chicago used the timely hitting of Billy Williams to capture the win. The left fielder socked a 2-run home run in the top of the sixth inning to put the Cubs ahead, 3-2. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a big one.

"Mordecai gains confidence in the confidence we have in him," said Chicago manager .
