The Pirates grabbed a win, 4-3, at Great American Ball Park, overcoming a fine effort from Cincinnati pitcher Max Manning. Manning went 7 innings and allowed 3 runs. Joel Hanrahan earned his 17th save, after closing out the game. At 42-48, the Pirates find themselves in third place in the National League Central Division.

The game was at a stalemate until third baseman Honus Wagner came to bat in the top of the eighth. Facing Cincinnati pitcher Aroldis Chapman, he hit a first pitch slider for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Pittsburgh on top, 4-3.

Wagner told a Pittsburgh Herald reporter that he was "pleased as punch" with the win.
