The Cincinnati Reds knocked off the Pittsburgh Pirates, 6-4, at Great American Ball Park. Joe L Morgan was a big reason Cincinnati won. The second baseman went 2-2 with a home run, while scoring 2 and driving in 2. The win went to Jim Maloney in relief. His record improves to 1-1. Bob Veale took the loss. Rob Dibble closed it out for Cincinnati, earning his 22nd save.

With the game tied, 1-1, in the bottom of the seventh, Morgan had a key at-bat for Cincinnati. With runners on 1st and 2nd, Morgan hit a run-scoring single off Deacon Phillippe, making the score 2-1, Reds.

"We'll relax tonight and enjoy this win," said Morgan.

Their 45-41 record puts the Reds first in the National League Central Division.
