The Chicago Cubs called upon starter Clark Griffith, and he delivered, leading his team to victory over the Washington Nationals, 4-1. Chicago is now 38-48, Washington 47-39.

Chicago used the timely hitting of Billy Williams to seize the win. The left fielder stroked a 2-run single in the top of the seventh inning to put the Cubs on top, 4-1. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.

"It's nice to step up when your team needs you," said Williams.
