Pitching was the name of the game in a tight contest between the San Francisco Giants and the Atlanta Braves. San Francisco won it, 2-1. San Francisco starter Joe McGinnity was in command. Brian Wilson recorded the save, making him 20 for 20. The Giants saw their win-loss record go to 48-35. At the same time, the Braves fell to 37-46.

San Francisco took a 2-1 lead on Roger Bresnahan's 2nd triple of the season. The 2-run triple, which Bresnahan hit in the bottom of the eighth, left Atlanta pitcher Tom Glavine shaking his head.

"There is no easy way to lose when you're doing everything you can to win games," said Atlanta manager .
