Arizona Beats Philadelphia in 11-Inning Thriller
|
Arizona and Philadelphia duked it out and the Diamondbacks came out victorious.
The Arizona Diamondbacks outlasted the Philadelphia Phillies, 7-4, in 11 innings. Willie Wells provided some punch at the plate for Arizona. He was 3 for 6 with a home run and 2 singles, while scoring 2 times and driving in 3. Curt Schilling snagged the win in relief. The right-hander allowed 1 run on 2 hits over 2 innings. He's now 3-7 on the season.
The game was at a stalemate until catcher Chris Snyder came to bat in the top of the 11th. Facing Philadelphia pitcher Erskine Mayer, he hit a full count fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Arizona on top, 5-4.
"There's still time to turn this season around," said Wells.
Arizona is now 37-43, Philadelphia 48-32.
