Diamondbacks Lose as Phillies Stage Late Rally
|
The Philadelphia Phillies beat the Arizona Diamondbacks, 5-4, at Citizens Bank Park. The win was due in part to first baseman Mike Schmidt, who went 2-4 with a home run and a double, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once. Mitch Williams earned the save for Philadelphia, his 17th. The first-place Phillies have a record of 48-31.
Had Schmidt not come through in the bottom of the eighth, who knows how the game would've ended? But with two down, Schmidt hit a 2-run double. The Phillies took the lead, 5-3, and never looked back.
"The key is not trying to do too much," said Schmidt.
