Cubs Dealt 6-3 Loss by St. Louis
|
The St. Louis Cardinals picked up a win at Busch Stadium, knocking off the Chicago Cubs, 6-3. Starting pitcher Mort Cooper was a big reason why. In 6 innings, Cooper surrendered 4 hits, while striking out 5 and walking 2. He allowed 2 runs. Earning his 26th save for St. Louis was Bruce Sutter.
Dobie Moore had a big 2-run home run for the Cardinals in the bottom of the fifth inning. With St. Louis trailing 2-1 and a runner on 2nd, he sized up a sinker from 28-year old right-handed pitcher Rick Reuschel and punished it. The result was his 12th home run of the season, which put the Cardinals on top, 3-2.
"Nice to see our side come away with the win," Moore said after the game.
The first-place Cardinals improved to 43-36.
