San Francisco Dealt 7-2 Defeat
|
Mets second baseman Jeff McNeil left his mark on his team's 7-2 win over the San Francisco Giants. McNeil, who is tied for 5th in the NL in doubles with 23, went 2 for 3 with a home run, a double, a walk, and was hit by a pitch, while scoring 2 times and driving in 3 for New York in the contest. John Franco recorded the save. In save chances, he's now 1 for 4. New York, at 39-38, holds down third place in the National League Eastern Division.
Pete Alonso drew 1 walk for New York. With one out and the game tied in the top of the seventh inning, Alonso, who is tied for 9th in the NL in extra base hits with 32, had a clutch at-bat. Facing San Francisco hurler Rod Beck, he hit a sacrifice fly to give the Mets a 2-1 lead.
Alonso told a New York Citizen reporter that the win made him feel "terrific."
