PNC Park featured a tense pitchers' duel.

The Philadelphia Phillies converted a terrific effort from starter Pete Alexander into a win over the Pittsburgh Pirates at PNC Park. The Phillies won the game by a final score of 2-0. Picking up his 16th save was 26-year old left-handed pitcher Mitch Williams.

Alexander gave Philadelphia a solid start. The right-hander, who is listed at 6' 1" , 185 lbs, allowed no runs on 1 hit over 6.1 innings.

"When there are games to be won, you win them," said Philadelphia manager .

Philadelphia's record now stands at 45-23, placing them first in the National League Eastern Division.
