Cardinals Pick Up 6-3 Win
|
The St. Louis Cardinals defeated the Atlanta Braves, 6-3, at Busch Stadium. Chick Hafey was one of the standouts for St. Louis. His 2 hits included 1 single and 1 triple -- this in addition to the 2 runs he scored and 4 he knocked in. Mort Cooper picked up the win, improving his season record to 6-4. He struck out 2 in 6 innings. Al Hrabosky earned the save, his 6th, for the Cardinals.
Hafey contributed a big hit, a bases-clearing triple, for St. Louis in the bottom of the third. With his team trailing 2-0, Hafey took a slider from Tom Glavine and stroked the triple to right-center. His 2nd triple of the season allowed the Cardinals to leap in front, 3-2.
"We'll kick back tonight and enjoy this win," said Hafey.
The Cardinals raised their record to 39-35.
