Traynor Lifts Pirates to 7-0 Triumph
The Pittsburgh Pirates downed the San Diego Padres, 7-0, at PNC Park. The Pirates were led by Pie Traynor. Traynor went 3-4 with a home run and 2 singles. He scored 2 times and drove in 3. Pittsburgh, now 34-35, holds down third place in the National League Central Division.

The Padres had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Pirates going into the bottom of the sixth inning. That changed quickly when the 27-year old left fielder Dave Parker came to the plate. Parker hit a solo home run on a 0-1 sinker from San Diego hurler Jake Peavy. It was Parker's 13th home run of the year.

"I like how we're playing right now," said Parker.
