Pirates Top Padres, 4-3
|
Not everyone stuck through the 37-minute rain delay, but those who did went home happy.
Pittsburgh parlayed a decent outing from starter Bob Veale into a solid win over the San Diego Padres. The final score was 4-3. In 5.1 innings, Veale surrendered 2 hits, while striking out 8 and walking 5. He allowed 3 runs. Deacon Phillippe earned save number 7.
Jack E Wilson, who is tied for 9th in the NL in triples with 3, contributed to the Pittsburgh win with a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth. For the game, the shortstop had 2 hits in 3 at-bats with 1 home run, 1 single, 1 run scored, and 1 run batted in.
"It was a team effort and I thought the guys had a good plan and approach," said Wilson after the game.
Pittsburgh is in third place in the National League Central Division with a record of 33-35.
