The Chicago Cubs weathered a fine game by Miami center fielder Turkey Stearnes to upend the Marlins, 7-6, at Marlins Ballpark. Stearnes was 2-4 with 2 singles and a walk. He scored 2 runs. Picking up his 16th save was 28-year old left-handed pitcher Sean Marshall. The win makes Chicago 30-42.

The game was at a stalemate until third baseman Woody English came to bat in the top of the ninth. Facing Miami pitcher Robb Nen, he hit a 0-1 splitter for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Chicago on top, 7-6.

"Very pleased with the effort on our side," said English.
