Giants Rally to Tally 3-0 Win
|
The San Francisco Giants picked up a win at Chase Field, defeating the Arizona Diamondbacks, 3-0. Starting pitcher Christy Mathewson was an essential part of his team's success. The win was credited to Gary Lavelle in relief. His record improves to 6-2. Bill Foster took the loss. San Francisco goes to 37-27, Arizona to 29-38.
San Francisco went up, 1-0, on Willie Mays's 9th home run of the season. The solo home run, which Mays hit in the top of the eighth, left Arizona pitcher Bill Foster stewing.
"Christy did a good job of shutting their lineup down," said San Francisco manager .
